Imagine trying to bring up a family on less than £200 a week.

That’s the situation faced by 41 per cent of lone parent families in Britain. Fifty per cent of children living with one parent are poor, compared to 23 per cent of those living with two adults.

Horizons is a unique programme that brings together Barclaycard and four charity partners to offer one parent families expert information, advice and support to help secure a brighter future.

Information, advice and support

Debt is a major issue for many lone parents, so Horizons funds debt counselling through face to face sessions as well as providing financial capability education to help lone parents to prevent future indebtedness.

Horizons also offers help and information around a whole range of parenting concerns.

Adult education and training in new skills

Horizons provides financial support towards the costs associated with adult education and training courses so that lone parents can learn new skills to improve their job prospects – and their self-esteem.

Returning to work: confidence, work experience and support

Horizons provides an employability programme including a short course to build up confidence, gain employment skills and work experience, as well as practical advice on childcare, training, in-work benefits plus ongoing personal support.
