Terms and Conditions of Use

Barclaycard Secure provides you with extra security for your online transactions. You choose a secret password that is used in addition to your card number and expiration details when making an online purchase from a retailer who also subscribes to the scheme.

Barclaycard Secure is not designed to verify the quality or fitness for purpose of the goods or services ordered. As always, customers need to satisfy themselves that they are dealing with reputable retailers.

Each time your card is used for online purchases with participating companies, you will be asked to confirm the purchase by entering your password on a secure and completely confidential screen.

Before you can use Barclaycard Secure you must agree to be bound by these terms and conditions of use. Please read them carefully before deciding whether to accept them.

Definitions

"Identity details" means the personal information you provide us with when enrolling to use Barclaycard Secure and which we use to confirm that you are the holder of a Barclaycard credit card account.

"Password" means the password you choose to identify yourself with when using Barclaycard Secure.

"Personal Message" means the Personal Message you choose when you enrol which will be shown to you when making online purchases through participating merchants.

"Username" means the username you choose to identify yourself with when using Barclaycard Secure.

Using Barclaycard Secure

When you use Barclaycard Secure, both these terms and conditions and your Barclaycard account terms and conditions will apply. If they contradict each other, the relevant condition in your account terms and conditions will apply.

Using Barclaycard Secure

1. To enrol for Barclaycard Secure you must provide us with Identity details which we will check.
2. When your Identity details have been verified you must also choose a unique Password, Username and Personal Message.
3. Your personal information will not be shared with any online retailer when carrying out an online transaction and will only be used in the ways described in our Privacy Policy.
4. If you do not provide adequate Identity details we will not allow you to enrol for Barclaycard Secure.

Security

1. You are responsible for keeping your Password and Username secret. You must not write down, store (whether encrypted or otherwise) on your computer or mobile phone handset or let anyone else know your Password or Username, and the fact that they are for use with this service.
2. If you think that someone else knows your Password or Username or has used either of them to use Barclaycard Secure, you must change it immediately using the Barclaycard Secure "Personal Account Manager" facility. If you are unable to use this facility, you can notify us by calling the helpdesk telephone number on the back of the card you use with your account.
3. For administration or security reasons, we can require you at any time to change your Password before you use (or carry on using) Barclaycard Secure.
4. We can stop you using Barclaycard Secure if we think that:
   • someone else is trying to use Barclaycard Secure for your account;
   • you or someone else is using Barclaycard Secure illegally;
   • you are not keeping to these terms and conditions or your account terms and conditions; or
   • your Password or Username might be known by someone else
5. We may give the police or any relevant prosecuting authority any information they need if we think it will help them find out if someone else is using your Password or Username.
6. We may keep any e-mails sent to or from us. We do this to check what was written and also to help train our staff.

Notices

We may change these terms and conditions for any reason with immediate effect by sending written notice to any address you provide us (including your e-mail address) or by publishing the change on our web site. If you change your address (including your e-mail address) you must notify us immediately to ensure that our records are up to date. The Barclaycard Secure scheme may be changed or terminated, either temporarily or permanently, without notice where the change or termination is required by Visa International Services Association or MasterCard International who run the payment systems for the cards used with your accounts.

The current version of the terms and conditions can be viewed at any time at http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/barclaycardsecure. In addition, when using certain Barclaycard Secure services, you will be subject to any rules or guidance which applies to those services that are shown on that web site.

Termination

1. If you wish to terminate your use of Barclaycard Secure, you must call the phone number on the website, following which your Password and Username will be deactivated. Any purchases made using Barclaycard Secure prior to deactivation will not be affected.
2. We can terminate your ability to use Barclaycard Secure on written notice. We will normally provide you with thirty days written notice, however, in exceptional circumstances we may terminate your access immediately and notify you as soon as possible thereafter at your current address (including your e-mail address).

Notices

1. Unless you are a victim of fraud, you are responsible for all instructions sent using your Password.
2. We will not be liable to you if we cannot carry out our responsibilities under this agreement as a result of anything that we cannot reasonably control. This includes any machine failing to work and industrial disputes.
