Bereavement

Letting us know when someone passes away

Letting us know when someone passes away

We’re here to help

We’re here to help

Dealing with the financial affairs of someone close to you when you’re grieving is never easy. But we’ll do everything we can to help.

Here’s how you can notify us if an account holder or a named person on the account has passed away and what we’ll do thereafter.

Notifying us

However you choose to contact us, you’ll need either the account number (for a business cardholder) or Merchant ID (for accounts taking customer payments using a Barclaycard product, such as a handheld terminal or online payment gateway), plus the business name and the name of the deceased to notify us of their death.

We’ll then explain what to do at each step and what documents you’ll need to provide.

Once you’ve notified us, we’ll stop any further communication being addressed to them. It takes a short time to arrange this, so they might still receive letters in the meantime. We’re very sorry for any distress this may cause.
