Pay securely with your phone

Pay without having to use your card. One tap and your payment is made, and safely encrypted so your card details stay private. Plus, you’re always in control – decide who can see and use your personal data in your Google Wallet settings.

In store payments

You can use Google Pay anywhere that accepts contactless payments. Just unlock your Android phone or smart watch and hold it near the reader until you see a tick mark. There’s no need to open the app.

In-app and online payments

Use Google Pay to check out even faster across your favourite apps and sites. After adding a card to your Google Wallet, you won’t need to enter your payment information again. Just choose Google Pay at checkout and confirm your purchase.

Using Google Pay

  • First, set up Google Wallet

    • 1. Download the Google Wallet app from Google Play and open it
      2. Select ‘Add to Wallet’
      3. Choose ’Payment card’ as the type of card you want to add
      4. Follow the instructions
      5. Verify your card if needed
  • Set up Google Pay

    • 1. Open the Google Wallet app
      2. In the top right, select your profile picture or account icon
      3. Select ‘Payment setup’
      4. Make sure you:
      Turn on near-field communication (NFC) in your device settings
    • Set Google Pay as your default payment app
    • Add at least one payment card to your Google Wallet
    • Set up a screen lock method

    You’ll need to do all of these before you can make contactless payments with Google Pay.

  • Use Google Pay

    1. Make sure you’ve added a payment card to your Google Wallet
    2. When you’re ready to pay, unlock your device and hold it near the reader
    3. Wait for the tick mark on your device to confirm payment

  • Use Google Pay on your Android smart watch

    1. On your watch, open the Google Wallet app
    2. Select ‘Get started’
    3. Set up a lock screen on both your watch and phone if you haven’t already
    4. Follow your phone’s instructions to add a credit or debit card
    5. Your card will now show on your smart watch

    Make a payment in store with your smart watch
    1. Open the Google Wallet app
    2. Hold your watch over the contactless payment reader until you hear a confirmation sound or your watch vibrates
     

  • Check your transaction history

    You can see a list of contactless transactions and activity for each card in your Google Wallet when you select the card in your Google Wallet app.

    Important: You can only see transactions made after you added the card to Google Wallet. To see all your card transactions, please check your bank statements.

    To find your recent contactless activity for a card

    1. Open the Google Wallet app
    2. Swipe left to switch between payment cards
    3. Select your card
    4. This will show your recent activity and you can select ‘View more activity’ to see more transactions.
     

  • Remove a card in Google Pay

    1. Open the Google Wallet app
    2. Swipe left to browse all payment cards you’ve added to Google Wallet
    3. Tap to select the card you want to remove
    4. In the top right, select the three dots
    5. Scroll down and choose ‘Remove payment method’

    If you remove a card from Google Pay you won’t be able to see your contactless transactions for that card.

  • Switch between contactless payment cards

    To pay with cards that aren’t your default payment card
    1. Open the Google Wallet app
    2. At the top, swipe left until you find the card you want to use
    3. Hold the back of your phone against the contactless reader
