If you choose to make an additional payment against a fixed payment Direct Debit, the fixed amount will still need to be taken in full.
But, if you make an additional payment against a minimum payment Direct Debit, then your Direct Debit payment will go down by that amount. The minimum payment is really a safety net to ensure you don't incur late payment charges. Ideally, you should still make additional payments by other means, rather than sticking to the minimum each month.
If you make an additional payment against a full Direct Debit, then the Direct Debit will be reduced by the amount of the additional payment.
Please note, any additional payment made within 3 working days prior to your payment being collected, won't affect your direct debit amount, as the request will already have been sent to your bank.
